Over Matariki Weekend Steam Incorporated, Glenbrook Vintage Railway and Pahiatua Railcar Society took part in the Federation of Rail Organisations of New Zealand or (FRONZ) 50th anniversary. The event was centred in Palmerston North with Friday seeing diesels DC 4818 & Da 1431 and steam locomotives Ab 608 & Ja 1271 heading up in the morning.

Around midday saw DBR 1254, DC 4818, RM31, Da 1431, Da 1410, Ww 644, Ab 608 and Ja 1271 all take place in a cavalcade at Palmerston North Station. In the afternoon RM31 and Ww 644 each ran solo excursions to Feilding while the rest of the locomotives provided cab rides for passengers.

To finish off the day a special night train ran from Palmerston North to Woodville and return hauled by Ab 608.
