Flumazenil is a specific antidote for benzodiazepines and it can reverse the sedation, anesthesia and other central effects produced by benzodiazepines. It acts as competitive antagonist on benzodiazepine receptors thereby blocks its actions. It is given as IV injection mixed with infusions as it produces pain at site of injection. It short duration of action and risk of convulsion, tachycardia are main limitations of Flumazenil use.
