Singer-songwriter-guitarist Suzanne Vega (Luka, Tom’s Diner, Marlene on the Wall …) sings on her new album – Lover, Beloved: Songs from an Evening with Carson McCullers – from the position of the American cult writer Carson McCullers (1917-1967). The openly bisexual and for her time and environment exceptionally progressive McCullers became world-famous with her debut novel, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1940). A couple of hours before her concert in the AB, Suzanne Vega will talk in Passa Porta about the life and work of her literary idol, and how she translated this fascination into new songs. Interview: Sarah Posman.

Sarah Posman (b. 1982) obtained her PhD in 2010 at Ghent University with a dissertation on the concept of time in the work of Gertrude Stein. She is an editor at the literary review nY and writes about English- and Dutch-language literature by mainly women writers for, among others, DeReactor.org.
