SOLO WITH STICK is choreographed and danced by Caroline Chevat - founding member of CIE TANZ RAUM. Caroline is probably the only European woman who grasps two major Egyptian disciplines at once: sticks and drums. Both are male domains. It is encouraging that the love for something can be stronger than any border, culture or gender. Caroline learned to play and fight with the stick with Ibrahim el Minyawi and Yahia Abdel Alim. Her nickname is Kuki El Minyawi.

The song “Tir Tir Ya Hamam” was part of the repertory sung by Hamdy Mahfuz, a famous singer in El Minya, Upper Egypt. Together with percussion legend Ibrahim El Minyawi, we had the chance to record the song of Hamdy Mahfuz with great musicians in the sound studio of Rafik Adli. We hope to release this recording soon under our music label.
