Swanage Railway - 'Flying Scotsman Running Day' 22/03/2019

Making its first visit to the Isle of Purbeck in over 20 years, 60103 "Flying Scotsman" would once again haul passengers over the Swanage Railway in Dorset.

The day marked the first of five continuous days of service for 'the Scotsman', with each day seeing the locomotive make 5 non-stop return services over the Purbeck branch from Swanage to Norden and back. Bolstering 60103's services, T9 Class - 30120 and Standard Class 4MT - 80126 (80104) alternated on a 'feeder' service, ferrying passengers from Norden and Corfe Castle to Swanage, where they could then alight for a service hauled by "Flying Scotsman".

The return of "Flying Scotsman" to Dorset also saw the locomotive paired with Pullman Observation Car No14. Car No14 had traveled with "Flying Scotsman" to the USA from 1969-1971, on the locomotives' infamous tour of America. This day marked the first time the pairing had been in operation together in 48 years.

For 60103's visit to Dorset, 80104 has been renumbered to Scottish-allocated classmate 80126, to add to the flavour of the London & North Eastern Railway being represented on the Swanage branch.
