Mir Taqi Mir
Mir Taqi Mir (1723-1810) is widely regarded as the most accomplished poet in the Urdu language. The outstanding Urdu writer, poet and critic SR Faruqi Saheb’s magnificent English rendition of the Selected Ghazals and Other Poems for the Murty Classical Library of India series offers a comprehensive collection of Mir’s finest ghazals and of his masnavis. The Urdu text, presented in the Nastaliq script, accompanies new translations of Mir’s works, some appearing in English for the first time. An evocative session where Faruqi discusses his translations and the meaning and context of the poems with noted writer and translator Harish Trivedi. Celebrated vocalist Vidya Shah brings the poetry to life through her musical interpretations.
