Sonic 1 Game Gear - Max Special Bonus Speedrun in

Max Special Bonus is the completionist category of this game. Some people would erroneously use the term "100%" for every game, please don't do that.

To achieve the max special bonus at the end of the game (500K) you must achieve the following things:
Get all 6 Chaos Emeralds in the game (50K)
Enter, and complete all 8 bonus stages (two separate 50K bonuses)
Pickup the extra life box in all 18 stages in the game (50K)
Have no deaths in the entire game (100K)
Completing all of these gives an extra 200K, for a total of 500K.

The bonus stages are entered by completing the first 8 levels (excluding the act 3s) with 50 or more rings. You can collect 50+ in scrap brain and sky base, but you won't get to go to a bonus stage, it's gotta be the first 8. Which makes routing a pretty interesting element for those stages.

This is the first run of this category I've had without any overly major mistakes. There's still a bunch of minor ones, but I'm happy enough with this for now.

Something to note about this run: This game is timed with the convoluted "Real time minus time bonus" method. Due to the huge time bonus, plain real time is simply not an option. Usually in these cases you would use In-Game time, but this game both doesn't have an In-Game timer for Act 3s, but also the strats for hitting the signpost at the end vary for real time and IGT (IGT stops as soon as you hit it, but real time progresses when the signpost stops spinning, so you want to hit it with no speed), so it's forced to use this timing method. As a result, you see the timer paused for a period of time after the level, equivalent to the time bonus length (though it's not exactly lined up, cause I can't split right there and be ready to press the button fast enough for some of the smaller ones) - but I always confirm the total time later with full RTA - total Time Bonus anyway.
