Cooking With Fire: Former Captain Pete Dern

#CookingWithFire: Once a firefighter, always a firefighter! Retired Fresno Fire Captain, Pete Dern, returns to Station 11 to cook for his fire family, alongside his daughter who is also with the Fresno Fire Department! FFD is not just a department but a way of life for these two.

Firehouse Mac Recipe:
Ingredients:
2 lb. bag of elbow Macaroni
1 yellow onion
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
5 Garlic cloves
2 tomatoes
Green onions
1 package of hot Italian sausage
1 can cream of chicken
2 cans cream of cheddar
Small package of real cheddar cheese
Garlic salt, pepper and red pepper flakes to taste.
Instructions:
Boil water and cook the pasta. At the same time, break up and brown the Italian sausage. Cut up all veggies and sauté those. Drain the pasta when it’s done, then add the meat and veggies to the pot. Add in cream of chicken and cream of cheddar. Mix well! Add in cheddar cheese and tomatoes. Once mixed add back to cast iron pot (or glass pan) sprinkle cheese and green onion on the top and broil for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and brown.
