Iași: Trams on seven hills | Trams in Romania - Episode 15 | 2024

Описание к видео Iași: Trams on seven hills | Trams in Romania - Episode 15 | 2024

Since 1900, electric trams have been running through the eastern Romanian city of Iași. The 35-kilometer-long network has meter gauge, which is rather unusual for Romania, and covers large parts of the city. From the 1990s onwards, numerous used vehicles were taken over from Germany and Switzerland. The largest proportion is the GT4 type from Stuttgart, which easily masters the challenging gradients in the "city of seven hills".

A lot has happened since our last visit in 2020: A total of 32 new vehicles from the manufacturers Pesa and Bozankaya have significantly rejuvenated the fleet, and 18 more have been ordered. The Darmstadt ST10, Bern Be 8/8 types and the GT4s in 1990s condition are out of service. The Augsburg GT8 trams now run mainly on lines 1, 3 and 13.
