Using the Write On option to Display text one letter at a time (2024)

How to add the Write On Typewriter Effect in Davinci Resolve.

1. For the Write On effect, A background is not necessary, but If you would like to have a background image or video, go ahead and load that first onto your video timeline.
2. Next go to the upper left and Click on "Effects", then Toolbar, then Title and drag the "Text+" option to the timeline above your background.
3. Go to the inspector panel in the upper right and click on Title. Make the desired changes to the text narrative, the font style, The size, and the color. This is also a good time to adjust the placement if you’d like.
You can do this by adjusting the X&Y positions on the settings tab of the inspector panel.
4. Drag your play head to where you would like the typewriter Write On effect to end.
5. With your text block still selected, go to title page on the "Inspector" panel in the upper right corner. and click on the keyframe diamond next to the "Write on” option.
6. Now move your play head to where you want the write on typewriter effect to begin, in other words, the starting point of the Write On effect. While the playhead is at the starting point of the Write On effect, drag the value of "Write On" all the way to zero.
