Coming up the two principals from an 80 rock band that is a true mystery… Wally Palmer and Mike Skill of the Romantics explain their 1983 #1 hit Talking In Your Sleep… First of all they had two huge hits that everyone knows… Talking in Your Sleep and What I Like About You...Only What I Like About You wasn’t actually a hit. It was sung by the drummer and got a lot of Mtv and radio play but stalled at #49 Then Talking in Your Sleep went to #1 in 1984 and in addition it was top 3 on all of the charts. Dance, Rock and Pop... It seemed like they were poised for stardom, THEN they found out that their managers had been misappropriating the profits earned by the band from its records and live performance since day one and the lawsuit that followed kept the band from recording anything for over a decade…. Up next this band tells the story of their #1 hit and how they came back from an 11 year hiatus to reclaim their legacy..

I’m excited to bring you another episode from our series Revelations- where featured artists go deep on their greatest songs. s. It’s the story of a band that had 3 hits and then disappeared for 11 years due to a lawsuit that stole their best years from them as a group. I’m talking about the Romantics… They burst onto the scene with the 1980 classic What I like about you that has become one of the most played songs on classic rock radio but it was not a hit song. It stalled at #49… then a few years later the band released the song Talking in your Sleep and it shot to #3 pop as well as #2 on the rock charts and #1 on the dance charts. A follow up song one in a million crept into the top 40 after that and everything was looking up for the new wave power pop band then their next album Rhythm romance completely tanked… NO singles hit the top 40 and they were dropped from their label... and then they found out their management had been misappropriating the profits earned by the band from its records and live performances.

Also one of their early hits (the aforementioned "What I Like About You") had been licensed for use in television commercials without the band's knowledge or approval. So to take back their legacy the Romantics filed a lawsuit against their management in 1987, and the legalities involved prevented the band from recording or releasing new music until the mid-1990s. as the band won their lawsuit against its former management and had the freedom to record again it also guaranteed that future earnings from the licensing of Romantics songs would go to the band). from there the band’s song would feature in many films and compilations from the best of the 80s and they would tour again and still do so to this day.
Coming up the singer Wally Palmer and guitarist Mike Skill from the Romantics tell us the story of one of the iconic song of the 80s Talking In youR sleep and some of their other hits and how they came back after an 11 year hiatus...
