In a wilderness survival situation, metal that can hold an edge is a precious resource. Even a small piece of metal can mean the difference between life and death.
Today I will show how a coin can fabricated into an effective survival knife using only primitive techniques. First find an anvil stone, preferably made of something hard such as basalt or granite with smooth flat surfaces. Next obtain a smooth round hammer stone. The coin is shaped via the process of cold hammering. First we want to hammer in 2 horizontal ridges, this will make the eventual cutting edge wider. Then, using the hammer stone, pound the stone until it flattens. Make sure to flip the coin every minute, such that the metal does not bend too much. The process of hammering hardens the metal but it also makes the material more brittal.

After 5 minutes of hammering, the coin is adequately flattened. Next we begin sharpening the edge with a small round stone, preferably made out of quartz. Pay particular attention to the condition of the edge, make sure to spend equal amounts of time sharpening each side of the blade. We want the edge to be as sharp and symetrical as humanly possible. After 5 minutes of sharpening, a smooth and clear bevel can be seen on the blade.

To make a handle, use the blade edge to partially split a wooden stick. Then use 2 pieces of green tree bark to bind the blade to the handle. The completed survival knife took less than 15 minutes to construct. Now lets go cut something.

Cutting through plant matter is effortless. The blade carves wood like butter. Cutting cordage is no problem at all. The blade slices cleanly through leather. And Meat processing is easy with this knife.

The improvised survival knife performed all cutting tasks effciently while holding it's edge. Because the knife can be sharpened over and over again, a single coin can provide years of effective use. So far, I have created primitive knives out of slate, bamboo, bone, quartz, seashell,and obsidian. The coin's copper-nickel metal alloy towers above all other materials in terms of cutting performance and edge retention. I believe that this knife design is invaluable in an emergency survival situation. Anyway, thanks so much for watching.
