Today I want to tell you a story about my white Jasmine, here it is growing in my garden, where it stays most of the year from the late spring through to autumn, it’s quite an unremarkable plant during this period and I must admit I don’t give it too much of my attention apart from watering when we have a dry spell and a prune here and there.

Jasmine is a climbing plant so I have put three garden canes in the pot to support it, and a few times a year I cut the long climbing branches back to keep it in some sort of shape.
I’ve owned this Jasmine for over 5 years and I dearly love it and wouldn’t be without it.
Now you might be thinking Andy, If you hardly pay attention to it for most of the year why do you love it so much!

Well my friends that’s a good question and the simple answer is for what happens for two short weeks in the winter, as the Autumn ends and the nights draw in, the temperatures drop and the frosts come, I bring my dear Jasmine inside in the warm, during the dark cold months of the winter, just after Christmas when there is not much nature to enjoy my faithful Jasmine lights up my life with fireworks of flowers and bursts of blossom.

An eruption of nature in my living space, what once was unremarkable becomes spectacular!
As if the visual display wasn’t enough this little plant fills my entire house with the amazing honey-sweet scent of jasmine, a sublime fragrance that makes my heart sing and really lifts my spirits if you have ever walked past a Jasmine hedge in flower and caught the scent as you walk past imagine how that might smell if you could capture that scent inside! For a few, fleeting weeks my living space is alive with this heavenly scent and there is no way to best describe this unless you witness it for yourself, you get to witness the genius of nature when you see this diminutive plant transformed for just a moment in time, and then… in a moment.. gone once more, for another year.
Even though it’s short, maybe because it’s short, it makes it so special, it makes the year of care worthwhile when you get to enjoy this display each year, I’m not joking when I say I look forward to it every year for the whole year and when I water it I look forward to those weeks in winter when there is little to brighten the day.

So this is my Jasmine, unremarkable and often overlooked in my garden but for me, one of my real favourites,
