Have Artists Touched up Our Lady of Guadalupe? Dr. Taylor Marshall describes three "artistic changes" that have been added/removed from the tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe:
1) cherubs before the 1660s that were removed
2) the pointed crown before 1571
3) facial touch-ups in the 1920s after Cristeros War.
These don't refute the miraculous origin of the tilma, but it shows that man "tinkers" with what is holy.
