Expert in a Year - The End

http://www.expertinayear.com - The Expert in a Year Challenge follows the progress of novice table tennis player Sam Priestley, as he attempts to go from beginner to expert in just one year and break into the top 250 players in England.

Is it possible to master table tennis in 12 months? No, is the answer. At least we couldn't. Not with only 504 hours of table tennis. Perhaps if Sam had played full-time for the year things would have turned out differently. Perhaps it just takes time for the skills and experience to sink in.

Regardless of the final outcome, we had a fantastic year and it's clear for everyone to see the transformation Sam went through over the course of the challenge.

We fully believe that if we were to stick with it, and continue playing pretty much every single day, Sam would eventually reach a top 250 standard. Maybe it would take another couple of years (or longer), but we see no reason why he wouldn't continue to improve at a steady rate.

If we've learnt one thing from this challenge it is that...

"Mastery is tough; but mastery is possible!"

If you really want to become an expert table tennis player it isn't going to happen over night, or even over the first year. The top professional players have dedicated ten years of their life to the sport (at a minimum) and made countless sacrifices to ensure the table tennis comes first. Eventually they are rewarded, and the hard work pays off, but don't forget the 'eventually' bit!
