BHAGAVATHI KALAM - DOCUMENTARY - SHRUTHI SHARANYAM - RAKHI MENON - SUDEEP PALANAD

Описание к видео BHAGAVATHI KALAM - DOCUMENTARY - SHRUTHI SHARANYAM - RAKHI MENON - SUDEEP PALANAD

Kalam Pattu, one of the oldest performing art rituals of Kerala State, is one of a kind for its precision, methodology and it's rich and vivid colors and music. This art is performed as an offering to Goddess Kali (or other Dravidian deities) and thus is a unique form of Kali Worship. Kalam Pattu is performed by a group of people in the presence of an elaborate Kalam or Kolam (colorful dust illustration of Kali on the floor). The myriad of colors adorning Kalam that embodies different emotions of Goddess Kali has been prepared painstakingly by Kalam artists using organically prepared colour powders. Then the artists, surrounding this illustrations, sing eulogies of Kali (believed to have written during Sangam period). At the end of the performance, the artist himself cleans up the illustration with dance-like movements. This ephemeral quality of Kalam Pattu and labour and the art behind it make it a culturally significant art form from the whole of South India. This documentary explores two exemplary artists of Kalam Pattu - Puralippuram Narayanan Namboodiri and Kalamandalam Haridas Kurup and their art in detail
