Dangerous trek to secret Ganesh Temple 🛕 | Dholkal | Bastar Chhattisgarh

Today was the 5th day of our Bastar road trip and I was super excited for my upcoming adventure. Deep inside the forest of Dantewada there is a 1000 year old statue of Lord Ganesh placed at a height of 3000 feet. Except for local villagers not many people knew about this place but in the last decade this place has gained a lot of attention and tourists from all over the world have been visiting this place.

To reach the temple one has to walk through the dense forests of Dantewada and then make their way through some steep rocks. Since the trekking was tough I left my mother at our hotel in Dantewada and headed towards Faraspal. From Faraspal you have to take a left turn which takes you to Dholkal base camp. Well trained guides who are all locals are available at that point. My guide for today was Ms Babita who is a local and had very good knowledge of the area in and around Dholkal. The 4.5 km trek took me around an hour and half. As the altitude increases the trek becomes tougher and the last 200 metres require some mild rock climbing which needs to be done carefully.

The view after reaching the top is awesome. After reaching at the top, to go near the Statue one has to walk over a thick plank placed by locals. After paying my respects to Lord Ganesh I stayed at the place for almost an hour admiring the view. I have explained the detailed history of the place in the video.

The return trek was comparatively easy and I reached the base camp within 45 minutes. For all explorers specially first timers it is advisable not to attempt the trek without a guide. There are many trails inside the forests and one wrong turn could take you deep inside the Jungle.

Also Dholkal tourism society provides facilities like camping, bonfire and local food right at the start of Trekking point. Charges for camping are Rs1200 per head which included tent, food, bonfire and guide cost. The area is totally safe and camping at this place would really be a wonderful experience. Those willing to stay in hotels can opt to stay in Dantewada or Jagdalpur.
