I was 16 years old when my mom was fighting cancer—and my dad decided that was the perfect time to have an affair. While he played house with another woman, I became my mom’s full-time caregiver, handling hospital visits, medications, cooking, cleaning, and everything he should have been doing as her husband.

Years later, my dad expects me to be a loving big sister to the child he had from that affair. I’ve made it clear I want no relationship with him, his wife, or their child. I don’t mistreat the kid—but I refuse to engage at all. No bonding, no babysitting, no pretending we’re a family.
