Another classic. This one almost has a cult status among gin lovers. @monkey47_dry_gin Schwarzwald dry gin. Still one of my all time favorites because of its complexity! Every time you seem to taste new flavours.
Monkey 47 is a floral and fruity gin from the "Schwarzwald" in Germany. Monkey 47 contains 47 unique botanicals. Once created, the distilled spirit is rested for three months in earthenware containers and then bottled at a healthy 47%. Here a list of used botanicals, almost endless: Lingonberries, angelica root, spruce shoots, acasia flowers, juniper, bramble leaves, blackberries, almond, cardemom, chamomile, bitter orange, cassia, acorus calamus, lemon verbena, cloves, cinnamon, coriander, cranberries, elderflower, hawthorn berries, ginger, grains of paradise, hibiscus, Kaffir lime, dog rose, cubeb, honeysuckle, lemongrass, lemon balm, lemon, jasmine, lavender, nutmeg, orris, sage, monarda didyma, pimento, rosehip, pomelo, liquorice, 6 types of pepper and many more.
All these botanicals make the monkey 47 a special gin that has won numerous prices in the past!
Nose: floral, aromas of lime, lemongrass and berries. You can almost smell the forest. Little like a pine forest after rain. There is so much going on in this gin!
Palate: very complex! A rich bouquet of flavours including citrus, lingonberries, plenty of spice, pine, eucalyptus, cardemom and some hibiscus.
Finish: dry, heavy and a lot of pine and wood notes.
In my opinion best served with a @fevertree_uk Indian tonic, lemongrass and some blackberries.
What's your perfect serve for the Monkey?
