DINAH WASHINGTON (Bewigged and beguiling) Jazz History #40

Описание к видео DINAH WASHINGTON (Bewigged and beguiling) Jazz History #40

Dinah Washington had one of the more unique voices in jazz. She would be unmistakable if not for the resemblance to Nancy Wilson which can trick a listener. An undeniably great and influential jazz singer, Dinah also had a foot firmly planted in the R & B world, and her biggest hits were in that genre, to the point that she earned a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was a dynamic presence, partial to extravagant wigs and furs (and reputedly a fur toilet seat), outspoken and at times, ribald. Trumpet players owe her a debt of gratitude for bringing together the unlikely trio of Clark Terry, Clifford Brown and Maynard Ferguson.

The Jazz History series is a video adaptation of a PowerPoint presentation used to teach a university course. It traces the roots of jazz from Ragtime at the turn of the 20th century to jazz-rock fusion at the end of the 1960s.
