How Shopify is revolutionising e-commerce | SHOP Stock

Shopify's story begins with Tobias Lutke, a German who moved to Canada to join his girlfriend, but legally couldn't get a job. He was led to start Snowdevil, an early E-Commerce store, however he quickly realised the software was worth more than the snowboard store, and pivoted to providing software to other merchants hoping to get online in the internet's early days. Shopify today has grown into a powerhouse today, and is responsible for the back-end of 8.5% of the online sales in the US. Though it's important to note, Shopify is not only competing with Amazon here, they are also competing with Square with Shopify Capital, as both now have a small business loans system and a POS offering, with all of the merchant data to back up analytical decisons as well.
