"The Pearl of The Atlantic" is a 1963 classic documentary on the New Bedford Scallop industry. This restored 28 minute vintage film features the history of the scallop with rare closeups of it's many eyes to swimming. New Bedford fishing vessels Explorer and Ruth Lee are in the clip. Scalloping at sea and on board shucking, steel nets-dredges, and the crews busy at work show the hard labor and sometimes dangerous conditions in fishing. Modern scallop processing plants reveal how they were packaged made ready for market and trucked away at Ell Vee Dee Seafoods.
