What are the different types of surgeries for Gynecomastia? Gynecomastia as we all know is the presence of breasts in the male or also known as man boobs. The treatment is by surgery. There are different kinds of surgeries that one can get done for Gynecomastia. The first type is Liposuction only. That is if it is mainly a fatty breast, a straightforward liposuction will remove all the fat from the breast and the chest will look like a normal manly chest. In certain cases there may be the presence of a gland then in which case we need to do a Lipoglandular Excision, that is a combination of liposuction and a combination of gland excision, wherein the gland also is removed. So this will lead to a completely flat chest and the chest will look completely normal. However in very severe cases, where there is excess of fat excess of gland and excess of skin also, the breasts start to sag and they sag to a very low position. So in these cases along with liposuction along with gland excision, we need to do what is called as a Skin Suspension. That means reposition the nipple areolar complex to the normal position, which is at the level of the mid arm line that is between the shoulder and the elbow at the mid level, somewhere there is where the normal nipple areola should rest. So depending on the kind of Gynecomastia, depending on the kind of skin excess depending on the kind of gland fat present there are different combination of surgeries that can be performed for Gynecomastia. When you go for your consultation your plastic surgeon will tell you which is the correct procedure for you whether you need a liposuction alone a Lipoglandular Excision or a Lipoglandular with skin suspension.
