Abbots Bromley Horn Dance

Описание к видео Abbots Bromley Horn Dance

An annual village event probably about as close as you will ever get to the filmed ambience of the Wicker Man (1973). Carbon dating has revealed that the antlers used in the Horn Dance date to the 11th century CE and these may perhaps have replaced an even older set of dancing horns. It has been suggested that the dance originated in pre-Christian times. Since the antlers (which were imported) are from reindeer is it possible that the dancing ritual may even be a distant folk memory from when Britain was connected to continental Europe, and reindeer migrated freely back and forth across this extensive landscape, harking back to the last great Ice Age? Ancient reindeer bones have been found in the Scottish Highlands.
