Cotton Whitefly - Attack and its solution | How to manage cotton leaves blackening in cotton field
Leaves of crop plants are a food factory for flowers, fruits etc. They need to clean and lush green to keep the food making process (photosynthesis). Sometimes, blackening on cotton leaves is observed in cotton fields which is misleading to black aphid by cotton growers. Actually it is white fly pest severe attack.
Whitefly is a sucking pest in cotton crop which weakens the plants by sucking sap from leaves and fruiting parts of crop plants and by excreting secretion which is attacked by fungus and ultimately cotton leaves look black and stop the food making process (photosynthesis).
White fly needs to be controlled in these cotton fields where nymph and adults white fly infestation is severe and causing blackening.
Buprofezin and pyriproxifen are effective insecticides against nymphs and flonicamid insecticide is effective against adult white fly. Both can be mixed in a good crop and single can be sprayed in poor crop. Sulphur should be mixed with these insecticides to get rid off blackening fungus.
