Implicit and Explicit Time Integration — Lesson 2

Описание к видео Implicit and Explicit Time Integration — Lesson 2

This video lesson shows that the key to differentiating between implicit and explicit time integration methods, at least for a 1D problem, is the method of determining the slope of the curve between time-steps. The implicit method uses the slope of the next unknown time-step, and therefore most be solved numerically. The explicit method uses the slope at a known time-step to find the slope at the next time-step, so it can be determined directly.
