My Wedding: Getting Married by Court Marriage in India

Ever wondered how foreigners marry Indians or Hindus marry Muslims in India? I'll take you through the exact process as you watch me get married to my Indian girlfriend in New Delhi.

The Special Marriages Act in India allows any two people to get married (providing one is a male, and one is a female). This act enables foreigners to marry Indians and different religions to marry each other too. This is totally different from the Hindu Marriage Act which Hindus use to get married. And you do not have to convert to Hinduism or Islam to marry a Hindu or a Muslim in India - you just use the Special Marriages Act.

There's so much paperwork involved with getting married in India, so I suggest you find a lawyer to help you with the paperwork and submit your application for marriage. Lawyers and form submitters can be found around District Magistrate Offices in India.

During this video, I confused the Sub-District Magistrate and the District Magistrate. They're two different people! The Sub-District Magistrate is the person who handles the marriage process on behalf of the District Magistrate.
