Khazad-dûm Suite | The Rings of Power: Season Two (Original Soundtrack) by Bear McCreary

The Khazad-dûm was one of the big highlights amongst fans of season one, and while it was already an iconic piece of Tolkein music after that season aired, I believe season two cemented it as such. With the involvement of the Rings in Khazad-dûm, the once noble, passionate, hearty theme of the Dwarven kingdom now turns far darker and wary. Now played in a minor key, it's entire meaning and effect shifts as King Durin III goes mad over the ring's power. It's a fascinating transition, and Bear does it in such a subtle, effective way. While not a piece of the Khazad-dûm theme, the final moment between Durin III and the Balrog is underscored by an emotional, gutwrenching ostinato performed over low male voices, a fittingly grand and righteous sendoff to a tormented king now turning over to the light.
