Come Thou Fount, the real story of Robert Robinson

I found various accounts about the hymn writer's later life, most talking about how he had "left the faith" never to return. A little research turned up a different story.
The biggest problem I had with some accounts was that Robert Robinson "left the faith and never returned." Then there was supposedly the statement he made, "Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then." If that were true, all he had to do was to call out to God for forgiveness. The truth is that the Bible teaches that the true believer is sealed until the day of redemption, and what people fail to see is the line after the "prone to wander...prone to leave the God I love," is this line. "Here's my heart, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above." We are not the Author and Finisher of our faith, Jesus Christ is. Robinson understood that.
