Sew Sunday 12/24/23 Christmas Tree Wall/Lap Quilt

Christmas Tree
Wall/Lap Quilt
45" X 51.5"

Supplies Needed:
16- Assorted Christmas Jelly Roll Strips
1.75 Yards of Background/Border
1- Scrap 7" x 7" Brown Tree Trunk

Cuts From Assorted Christmas Color Jelly Roll Strips:
1 Cut from each print
4.5", 6.5", 8.5", 10.5", 12.5", 14.5",
16.5", 18.5", 20.5", 22.5", 24.5", 26.5",
28.5", 30.5", 32.5", 34.5"

From Background Cut
15- 2.5" Strips
1- 6.5" Strip

Subcut:
2- 2.5" Strips into 36- 2.5" Squares

Save: 5 Strips for Border 1
Save: 2 Strips for Top and Bottom of Tree

Cut the rest into:
2 Of Each of these sizes
1.5", 2.5", 3.5", 4.5", 5.5", 6.5",
7.7", 8.5", 9.5", 10.5", 11.5", 12.5",
13.5", 14.5", 15.5", 16.5"

From 6.5" Strip cut 2- 15.5" Strips

From 2- 2.5" Strips cut 2- 36.5" Strips

Cut Down Leftover 2.5" Strips into 2.5" Squares
For the Pieced Border

Assemble As Follows

Add 1- 2.5" Square to each end of the Print Strips
Sew On the Diagonal as if you were making Flying Geese Units
Trim away Extra. (Video Shows Directions)

After All Corners have been added to each end of each strip, then
add from top of tree (A flying Geese Piece that is 4.5") attach the
Largest strips 16.5 to each side.
Then Second Largest on down each strip sides till you get to the bottom of
the tree which is the 34.5" Strip only gets the 1.5" to each side.

Trunk is cut down to 6.5" X 6.5" and will get the 6.5" X 15.5"
to each side.

Then Sew All the strips together with the smallest tree top down
to the biggest tree bottom. (Video has Directions)

Add the Trunk to Bottom

Add the 2.5" x 36.5" Strips one to top and 1 to the Bottom.

To make the Scrappy Border 1. Sew all your 2.5" Cuts of leftover Jelly Roll
Strips.
Sides get 23 Squares
Top and Bottom get 20 Squares

Then Sew together your Remaining 5- 2.5" Background strips together end to end
and attach to the sides and top and bottom of quilt. (See Video For Directions)

You will have a 45" X 51.5" Finished Wall/Lap Quilt

You can add another border if you wish. Try a 5" Border to make it just a bit bigger.
