Gudi Padwa marks the traditional New Year for the Marathi people as per the Marathi calendar.
It's a holiday in Maharashtra. A Gudi is be put up and worshipped in the morning and has to be removed before sunset. So, this is a no outing - stay at home kind of holiday.
Naivedhya or bhog is offered to the deities at home. This naivedhya is generally a Thali.
A Thali is a classic, traditional Indian way of eating food and each state has it's own mix of dishes that go into a Thali.
This vegetarian thali is a typical Maharashtrian thali with vegetables like Vaalacha birda and Batatyachi bhaaji which are commonly prepared in any Maharashtrian home for daily meals.
Shrikhand-Puri is prepared on festive occasions. With the mango season coinciding, it's convenient to make Aamrakhand.
Masale Bhaat is also prepared on special occasions, while Varan-bhaat or (Dal-rice) is the staple in Maharashtra.
Bhaji or pakode are made from whatever vegetables are easily available at home, like onion, potato, capsicum, brinjal.
This Thali is inspired by the meals prepared across the coastal, Konkan region where coconut is used liberally in food. Let's cook "Maharashtrian Thali."
