Now with the news that the new BTCC hybrid era is going to begin with a pre season test at Thruxton we're going on a trip down memory lane. 23 years to be exact to 1999 for a classic Thruxton race. This is Round 17 of the season the second trip the BTCC made to Thruxton that season and the pressure was on the championship leader super touring legend Laurent Aiello after a poor Snetterton when despite taking both poles he only managed 1 7th place finish under the lights. Could he break his winless run at the fastest circuit in the country? Also under pressure was James Thompson driving for WSR who ran Honda's back then after only scoring 2 points from Snetterton which saw drop behind the second Nissan of David Leslie who was 1st and 2nd under the lights if not broken suspension in the second it could've easily been a double win instead the second went to Dutchman Peter Kox who's engineer was one Brad Joyce who was Lance Stroll's engineer at Aston Martin last year. Others to watch out for are the Volvo's of then reigning champion Rickard Rydell and Belgian Vincent Radermecker, the Renault of Jason Plato and Ford's last dream team before Motorbase went Napa for 2022 Alain Menu and Anthony Reid. Your guides for this race are Steve Rider, Charlie Cox and John Watson enjoy.
