S1 – Ep 214 – Jagersfontein – The Biggest Hand Dug Hole in the World!

When I planned our route and chose Jagersfontein as one of our destinations, I never even knew that it was a mining town and not to mention the fact that it is the biggest hand dug hole in the entire world. That is mind-blowing. It is very unfortunate that about a month before our visit there was a massive mudslide from one of the tailings dams. The dam wall broke and local residents unfortunately perished and others were injured. At the time of our visit, there were still a few residents missing. Just driving past and looking at all the devastation was truly scary. On the upside, two of the top ten largest diamonds ever found were mined here.
