Dyslexia and Mental Health - We've got an epidemic of suicide on our hands

Описание к видео Dyslexia and Mental Health - We've got an epidemic of suicide on our hands

Dyslexia is not just a phonological processing issue - it affects the whole person, lowering the self-esteem of millions of people, putting untold stresses on generations of school children, and causing school drop-outs, self-harm, and suicide.

If we fail to see dyslexia as a key factor in the mental health of our children, we risk failing them in more ways than simply educationally.

* - It's been pointed out to me that at the beginning of this video I said that "dyslexia is a mental health problem". I accept that my wording was clumsy, dyslexia itself isn't a mental health problem at all; but I hope that people can take this in the larger context that I was saying "where you find dyslexia, there's a probability that you'll also find mental health problems", or perhaps "there are more than just literacy problems associated with dyslexia, there are mental health problems". I pray that this clears up any ambiguity in what I was saying.
