বৈদিক শ্রুতিতে মুনি ঋষিগণ পাঁচ তত্ত্ব দিয়ে এই ব্রহ্মান্ডকে ব্যাখ্যা করার চেষ্টা করেছেন। প্রত্যেক মৌলিক তত্ত্বের (বিষয়গুলির) জন্য আলাদা করে এক এক দেবতার নিযুক্তি করা হয়েছে, তাঁদের শুনির্দিষ্ট প্রকৃতি অনুযায়ীI ঋষি কণাদ অণুর সংক্ষিপ্ত ব্যাখ্যাসহ দুই বা তিন অণুর বিবিধ যোগ বিয়োগের ও এদের বিন্যাসে শীত-তাপ বা বাতাসের প্রভাবের তত্ত্ব প্রস্তাবনা করে গেছেন। তাই বিজ্ঞানের দৃষ্টিতে বৈদিক ধর্মের গর্ভেই ‘আ্যলকেমী-পূর্ব’ ভারতীয় রসায়নের পত্তন হয়েছে। পরবর্তী কালে ‘চরক-সুশ্রুত-ভাগবত’ ও অন্যান্য শাস্ত্রগুলি, ভারতীয় বিজ্ঞানের এই বহুমুখী চর্চা পদ্ধতির ধারক ও বাহক হিসাবে প্রগতি অব্যাহত রেখেছে।

In Vedic Shruti literature, rishis tried to interpret the universe with the five elements. For each different fundamental element (theories), one Deity was assigned along with the specific actions related to each one of them. Rishi Kaṇāda with a brief explanation of the molecule proposed the theory of various additions and subtractions of two or three molecules and the effect of cold-heat or wind on their arrangement, for which Vedic Dharma is seen as the birthplace of 'pre-alchemical' Indian chemistry in the eyes of science. This multifaceted practice of Indian science was later continued by 'Charaka-Sushruta-Bhagavata' and many others.

About The Speaker:
Dr. Sabyasachi Sarkar was born on 1947. His education in chemistry started from the very childhood at Vidyamandirs of Santhal Pargana, and Howrah. Later on, he started his research under the tutelage of the disciples of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, at Kolkata Science College. Dr. Sarkar is the Honorary Professor of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math, Howrah, and Former Head of the Department and Professor, of the Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur.
