David Lang writes: “I want to live" is a movement from the staged oratorio "Shelter" that I wrote with composers Michael Gordon and Julia Wolfe, with libretto by Deborah Artman. "Shelter" was commissioned by Musikfabrik and the Next Wave Festival of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and was premiered 18 March 2005 in Cologne, Germany.
