LSU’s slump just got worse.

The Tigers were outplayed in every phase Wednesday night in Lafayette as the Ragin’ Cajuns handed LSU a 7-2 loss. Defensive miscues, lack of timely hitting and continued offensive struggles plagued Jay Johnson’s club again as LSU dropped its second straight game and fell to 11-3 on the season.

The defensive issues are becoming a major concern. LSU committed three more errors, bringing the total to seven over the last two games. Meanwhile, Louisiana executed cleanly with small ball, timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

Trent Caraway provided LSU’s biggest swing with a two-run homer to cut the deficit to one in the fifth, but the Tigers couldn’t capitalize and never mounted another serious threat.

The offense did generate some quality contact from Derek Curiel, Jake Brown and Caraway, but LSU finished 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times.
