Luis Antonio Calvo - Adiós a Bogotá

Considered one of Colombia’s most important classical composers, Luis Antonio Calvo (1882-1945) wrote this undeniably South American dance as a farewell gesture to the Colombian capital as he departed to the town of Agua de Dios to isolate and have his leprosy treated. The piece flits back and forth between dramatic yearning and a comfortingly warm nostalgia, as if to sum up Calvo’s feelings for Bogotá.

Fruzsina Szűcs is a Manchester-based Hungarian pianist, currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. She performs extensively, and notable recent appearances have been at the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Music in Hungary, the Lionel Wendt Theatre in Sri Lanka, and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. She is a keen collaborator, most notably with fellow pianist Louis Perera with whom she won the RNCM’s Piano Duo Prize in 2018.
