Welcome to Peak Planet

Today we are going to cover footwear
For your Kilimanjaro climb

First let's discuss socks.
Socks are very important, not only for comfort
but to help ease fatigue and wick away moisture.

We recommend bringing a pair of socks for every day or every other day.
By wearing 2 pair, the outer pair can be turned inside out and used again
or you can wash them out at camp and hang them over your tent to dry.
This will reduce your duffle weight.

For a liner, we recommend silk, or a combination of Nylon and Polyester.
Just make sure it doesn't slide down or bunch up inside your other sock.

Injinji makes these toe socks in a variety of thicknesses.
They do take some getting used to though.

Over the liners, you can wear a variety of socks,
Such as Thorlos, Smartwool, etc.
Depending on your preference you can bring both ankle socks
and longer socks.

Bring a pair to wear while you sleep.

For shoes, we recommend a light hiking shoe or trail runner
for the first few days on the mountain.
You can also wear them around camp
or bring a lightweight flip flop or sandal.

As you ascend the mountain, or as the terrain gets
colder and wetter, You'll want to switch to a waterproof,
Gortex type boot to keep your feet both warm
And dry.

Make sure and test all of your socks and boots
before you go to Kilimanjaro,
Sore feet will make your climb miserable.

Thank you for watching.
