By special request, in this I'll be going over getting started collecting & expanding a Chaos Space Marine army for 10th Edition Warhammer 40k. With the codex right around the corner I imagine we'll be seeing a lot more interest in CSM so I in this 40k guide I wanted to share some various tips 'n tricks I've learned over the years of collecting / building my Chaos army.

I'll be covering a lot in this one: Getting started from scratch or with a Combat Patrol, tips for expanding your army, their playstyle, some of the best units currently available, modeling tips, example 1k army lists, helpful resources & more!

Chaos Space Marines have a whole lot going for this in 10th edition wh40k. Everything from their awesome 40k lore, amazing army/unit rules, excellent Daemonic allies (both Chaos Daemons & Chaos Knights), their gorgeous kits & a very powerful codex there's practically nothing not to love. They make for a FANTASTIC beginner army in that they start off with the "basic" Space Marine profiles but then one up them with powerful & unique abilities to give them that extra 'oomph'.

They have fun & powerful characters, from both a 40k lore & gameplay perspective such as Abaddon the Despoiler, the enigmatic Cypher or the pragmatic Vashtorr the Arkifane. They back these up with some of the best battleline infantry in the game - the always cheap & cheerful meatshields of Chaos Cultists to the veteran Legionaries who have been fighting against the false emperor for millenia.

Their Daemon Engines are some of the scariest beasts in the entirety of Warhammer 40k, able to strike fear into even the most devout of emperor's servants. From the thrashing tentacles of the Maulerfiend to the excessive firepower of the Forgefiend. Defiler's are able to crush Terminators with their claws while drowning their Scout Squad in unholy flame.

They back these up with some of the deadliest elites in wh40k. Chosen, who have proven themselves before the dark gods, run headfirst into battle not caring if their measly support will follow their lead or not. Possessed, who have given themselves over to their dark masters in their thirst for power. Chaos Terminators who don their unholy armor in order to sacrifice more souls to their beloved patrons.

Beyond that they have numerous legions to choose from. The demonic Word Bearers (Pactbound Zealots) who make unholy pacts with the gods to improve their power on the battlefield. The Iron Warriors (Felhammer Siege Host) who care not for false promises but instead only make use of powers for their own personal gain. Red Corsairs (Renegade Raiders) who's piratical mindset allows them to take harass & massacre the Imperium of Man at whim. The Night Lords (Dread Talons) who strike from the shadows, murdering those they come across in the dark. Veterans of the Long War (Black Legion) who're led by the man himself Abaddon the Despoiler letting nothing get between them & their final goal. The Soulforged Warpack (Vashtorr's legion) who use the unholy alliance with demons to imbue their machinery with murderous power. Even the lowly Chaos Cult has shown itself as the one true followers of Chaos.

By bringing allies they're able to take full advantage of Chaos Daemons & Chaos Knights. Nurgle, Khorne, Slaanesh and/or Tzeentch care not who kills in their name.
