00:00 Introduction
The review will be taken according to the Bespoke Unit Cigar Formula, a quantifiable review matrix that you can use at home.

00:28 Cigar Overview
The Year of the Ox is the ninth rendition of Davidoff's limited edition runs, paying tribute to the upcoming Chinese New Year. 2021 is the Year of the Ox and as such, it's a rather bulky and quite prominent cigar, a hefty 6x60. This cigar pays homage to all the attributes that are given to the ox as a Chinese Zodiac.

02:47 Look & Feel & Prelight
Wrapped in a glossy shiny, very oily wrapper from the Dominican Republic. The blend as such also features a binder from Ecuador of the Sumatra seed. Nicaraguan, and Dominican filler tobaccos. it's perfectly even, perfectly rolled and lets us assume that the overall performance of the cigar will be excellent.

The color of the wrapper is rich dark milk chocolate with aromas of funky leather, wet grass, some manure, and also a little bit of pencil lead.

After cutting the cigar with the cold draw, which is ideal by the way, fresh grass, a light bitterness, some nutmeg, quite beefy, which fits the overall theme. And already before lighting the cigar, the aromas are quite rich and invigorating.

03:35 Tasting Notes
The first third opens with a creamy beginning. It delivers notes of cardamon, butter toffee, and orange peel. Meanwhile, the second third reveals Birchwood, star anise, and soy sauce.

Finally, the last third consists of salted pretzel, manure, and charred wood. Its palate is rich and mouth-coating. Its depth is luscious. The mouthfeel is smooth and perfectly engaged with balanced stimulation. Finally, expect a lingering finish.

07:02 Burn
The Davidoff Year of the Ox may require the odd touch-up but nothing all too worrying. Its draw is ideal with a cool and ethereal smoke. The ash backbone is stable with a grey-ish ash.

07:30 Overall Experience
Both the design and overall appearance is gorgeous as can be expected from a Davidoff Limited Edition. It has its classic white label with a secondary band featuring the Zodiac sign in red. The cigars are delivered in 10-count boxes with 13,000 produced around the world in total. The box is stunning with sparkling shining red colours and gold accents. Nevertheless, you can guess that it's quite pricy with singles costing $40 and a whole box retailing for $400.

Overall, the Davidoff Year Of The Ox is best reserved for special occasions rather than one that you enjoy casually. Nevertheless, it can most certainly be smoked alone for a moment of contemplation.

10:36 Pairings
Consider pairings like aniseed liqueur like a pastis or Ricard. Otherwise, chocolate milk is a great alternative. Meanwhile, beetroot juice would be an adventurous choice.

As for dishes, fresh beetroots with goat cheese would be intriguing. Beef broth would also be an exciting yet opt change of pace. Finally, a Snickers bar would make for a pleasant snack.
