Human Rights Defenders have cautioned the Commander of Land Forces Lt. Gen Peter Elwelu about his remarks on the Kasese clashes of 2016 where more than 100 people were killed.

After he was sworn in as a UPDF Representative to the 11th Parliament on Tuesday, Elwelu said the people who died when joint security forces raided the Rwenzururu palace deserved what they got.

Elwelu’s statement has raised concern among the people of Kasese and leaders in the Rwenzururu kingdom.
