A Vicuña is a small, graceful, and fast cousin of the llama, whose wool was, and still is, very much sought after for its finesse. Never domesticated, the wild vicuña wool was very scarce. Clothing made of this particular wool was solely worn by the Inca himself, the Royal Family, and high priests. Even today, ponchos made of this wool are worn solely by the Jilakata -- Chief of the Community -- and only for special ceremonies.
