Marx E7 long pilot restoration

Описание к видео Marx E7 long pilot restoration

The long pilot was the earliest and the nicest looking shell Marx produced. Unfortunately it was difficult to remove from the molds, many broke so Marx shortened the pilot and changed the coupler on the dummy A. This one was missing a rear step and had a large chip out of the rear roof but the original paint is so nice I decided to restore rather than use it for a custom. The nose is also cracked so I brushed on some plastic weld on the inside of the shell to help seal and strengthen the cracked area. I used milliput putty to repair the rear roof and to attach a replacement step using plastic weld. I cut the steps from shells that are beyond repair, sand them smooth, and use them for repairing shells like this. I put the early motor in it after polishing the wheels and pickup shoe ( I used the words pickup plate in the video, oops!)I also added new motor brushes which vastly improved it's performance. These weren't the best pullers but by polishing the wheels and shoe (also clean your track), I was able to pull a 9 car train and B unit with several cars having roller pickups on them including two on the Lionel lighted caboose.
