The trail follows a wooded area that houses some of the island's indigenous vegetation. After a couple of miles, the trail heads to a spectacular part of the island where native forest is flourishing.
The luxuriant vegetation that dominates the island's tunnels and the various species that live in them are both fascinating and valuable cultural artifacts.

The path ends at the Ribeiro Bonito, where the feeling is that you are in a truly sanctuary of nature. This area is part of the Laurisilva forest, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The presence of clear water in this area allows for the continued growth of a great diversity of organisms. There are many species that thrive in this region, such as the firecrest, the chaffinch, and the Madeira laurels.

The S. Jorge water mill is a must-see for anyone wanting to experience the preservation of grains and other food crops grown in the area.
