Akubra Cooper Pedy Hat. Named after the opal mining town, this hat could not get more Aussie with a kangaroo leather band embedded with an actual opal from the famous mine. The shape of this hat is immediately recognisable as Australian with the wide, sweeping brim to keep out the searing outback sun tilting downwards in that inimitable Aussie silhouette. Each hat is unique due to the characteristics of the kangaroo leather, and the cast of the fire in each opal.

Please note: This hat is very similar to The Lightning Ridge Hat, which is sold in the USA and Canada.

Top quality hat - Smart and functional

'I bought my Coober Pedy in November 2017 and am as delighted with it now as the day I received it.

I discovered it when researching to find something with a deep crown and wide brim. The Coober Pedy seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I opted to buy it in Australia - rather than from a UK importer or by having it shipped from Oz. So, I held off from buying one until shortly before travelling to Australia for a tour. I received it at the start of a month of travelling around Australia and it more than lived up to expectations.
The fit was, and still is, perfect. I was a little concerned that, with the wide brim and no chin strap, it would blow away in a slight wind. In fact, the hat stays on my head in pretty much any conditions short of a gale. It does the job of keeping my balding head from burning and is easily the smartest hat I own. The opal is a delightful finishing touch.

During the Tour of Oz, I was privileged to visit the Kangaroo Sanctuary at Alice Springs and to meet Chris Barnes (aka “Brolga” aka Kangaroo Dundee). I was chuffed to discover that Mr Barnes and I had identical taste in hats. His Coober Pedy has been heavily ‘customised’ by, for example, being chewed by kangaroos. In spite of the abuse it has received, his Coober Pedy was still very effective at shading the head of its famous owner.

The Coober Pedy is a wonderful hat. It is functional and smart (provided it does not get chewed by the wildlife). Given its excellent quality, the cooper Pedy represents very great value for money.

Service from Everything Australian was excellent. I received prompt and comprehensive replies to a couple of questions prior to ordering and the hat was waiting for me when we arrived in Perth at our first hotel on our tour of Oz.
