SAD crisis: Sikh group meets Akal Takht Jathedar ahead of five high priests’ meeting

A day prior to the five high priests’ meeting to take a call on the existential crisis in Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a group of Sikhs under the banner of Panthic Talmel Sangathan led by former Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Kewal Singh approached the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh with a submission that the ‘guilty’ should not be let-off with mild ‘religious punishment’ .

They also urged that the Panthic representatives should be taken into confidence for consolidated opinion before pronouncing the verdict.


The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
