Method 1 - Send a Google Doc as an attachment from within Google Docs

I've already logged into Google and I'm in Google Docs. You can find the URL for Google Docs in the description below.
I'll open a draft document In Docs.
To share this document as an attachment, let's first click on 'File' in the top menu bar.
From the options shown, lets then choose 'Email' and 'Email this file'
A new window is then presented with a number of options for sending the Document as an attachment.
Firstly, you have an option shown to Send a copy of the document to yourself. If you wish to do this, click in the checkbox.
This will then send an email to the Gmail address associated with your Google account
Next, let's enter the email address to which we want to send the document to.
The subject is prepopulated with the document name, but you can amend this as you choose.
You can also write a short message below that will be added to the email
The next checkbox gives you an option to paste the content of the document directly into the email. Of course, if you choose this option, you will no longer be able to send the document as an attachment so I'll leave it unchecked for now.
So, if you still wish to send the document as an attachment, the last option to choose is the file format to be attached.
PDF is the default option but a number of alternative formats are offered. Choose the one that you prefer from the dropdown.
And to finally send the document as an attachment, click the large blue Send button.

Method 2 - Send a Google Doc from within Gmail
If you want to keep a copy of the email in this way, the next method I'll discuss for sending Google docs by email may be better for you as this will store a copy of the email in your sent folder, in Gmail.
The alternative method is to download the document directly from Google docs.
You may prefer this method if you want to have more control over the email that is sent or want to send multiple Google docs in a single email
So I'm logged into Google, and in Google Docs
I'll start by choosing 'File from the top menu bar. And from the options offered, I'll then click on 'Download'
A number of alternative file formats are now shown including PDF and Microsoft Word. If you click on your preferred format, this is then automatically downloaded.
To share that document, I'll now switch to another tab and open Gmail.
To compose a new email, I'll click on the pencil icon in the top left of the inbox.
A new email window is then opened.
I'll quickly enter the email address to send this mail to, and to attach the downloaded Google doc, I'll choose the attach icon at the bottom of the message.
A new window then opens and we can choose our downloaded Google doc from that window by double clicking it.
The document is then uploaded to Gmail.
To then send the email with the attachment we then just choose the large blue Send button.
