농‧식품 산업의 혁신! ‘플라즈마 파밍’

Plasma, which dominates the space, has been known as the fourth state of matter. It has grown in significance as it has been widely applied to different areas including semiconductor, display, manufacturing, medicine and beauty. And plasma farming, which has contributed to producing safe agricultural products and increasing the income of rural households, has been in the spotlight. National Fusion Research Institute has led the researches on plasma farming, as part of an effort to provide safe and healthy food to the public. Moreover, plasma can maximize the sterilizing effect and get rid of the pesticide residue from agricultural products. A bubble plasma machine, which can clean the surface with bubbles, can decompose about 90% of pesticides when operating the machine for about three minutes. And it also provides an enhanced sterilizing effect. And another experiment, which can accelerate the germination and growth of seeds by using plasma, has been carried out. The seeds which have gone through the plasma-based water treatment, have bigger leaves and stems. And they have about two times faster rate of growth. Innovative plasma farming technologies have been commercialized. And they have contributed to storing agricultural products more effectively. Farmers had to discard rotten or dried agricultural products. However, after installing the plasma equipment, the products can be stored for a long period of time, without any problems. We look into plasma farming, which has brought about innovation to the agricultural and food industries and increased the convenience of farmers.


우주의 대부분을 차지하며 물질의 제 4상태로 알려져 있는 플라즈마! 이미 반도체나 디스플레이 제조부터 의료 및 미용분야까지 활용되며 중요성이 증가하고 있는 가운데 플라즈마를 농업에 도입해 안전한 농산물을 생산하고 농가 소득 향상에 도움을 주는 플라즈마 파밍이 떠오르고 있다. 국가 핵융합연구소에서는 농장에서부터 식탁까지 안전하고 건강한 밥상을 구현하기 위해 플라즈마 파밍 연구를 계속해서 진행 중이다. 야채나 과일의 살균 효과를 극대화 시킬 뿐만 아니라 농산물의 잔류 농약을 제거하는 역할까지 해내고 있다. 큰 거품이 일며 표면을 씻어주는 버블 플라즈마 기기를 3분 정도 가동시키면 농약의 약 90%까지 분해가 가능한 것이 장점이다. 또한 플라즈마를 적용하여 씨앗의 발아와 생장을 촉진하는 연구도 진행 중이다. 플라즈마 수 처리 된 종자는 잎과 줄기가 크고, 훨씬 풍성한 것은 물론 생장 속도 역시 2배 정도 빠르다. 이러한 혁신적인 플라즈마 파밍 기술은 실제로 상용화 되어 농·식품을 보관하는데 도움을 주고 있다. 일정 시간이 지난 후 썩어버리거나 말라버려 농·식품을 버릴 수밖에 없었던 고충을 겪었던 농가 관계자들은 최근 장기간 보관에도 신선하고 깨끗하게 유지할 수 있도록 도와주는 플라즈마를 사용하고 있다는데, 농·식품 산업에 혁신을 일으키고, 농민들에게 편리함을 제공하는 ‘플라즈마 파밍’을 만나본다.
