Hey there, welcome to Old World!
To fully understand how everything works one needs a little time, yet there still is much to discover and every game can always be managed a little better than the previous one. The game is quite well balanced and the real fun begins when switched on the hardest difficulty. Even if you play your best, the opponent pushes you to the limit right from the start.
If there is a heat problem at the beginning, war or too much anger in your families, you've probably lost the game. Time and good planning is of the essence here.
The music is excellent and really adds to the atmosphere of the game. And if you don't like it, even common sounds are fine.
Many events and pictures are fun to watch even more once you realize that history really knows much of it.
Religion fits in the game perfectly and it is a strong tool for advancing strategies.
Overall, I think Soren Johnson and his team did an amazing job here, the game is challenging in many ways and has good drive.
Well done!

Here are a few useful tips for new gamers.
Keep good relationships with your neighborhood and families too.
Try using a different leader character. Judge, builder, schemer, scholar, orator, hero, tactician, zealot. Every single one has its strengths and weaknesses.
Cities with higher population can produce workers and settlers faster, cities with higher training can produce military units faster. Keep this in mind and try to use it to your advantage.
Every type of city has different bonuses. Read description and see terrain properties too.
All 3 types of cities in equal numbers are very important because of reliable economy and happiness.
For example, Hunters, Artisans, Landowners, 2 - 2 - 2, or 1 - 2 - 2, or 3 - 2 - 2. All these variations are fine. Sometimes it can even be by two or three when families are happy, or when you need to establish the same type of city again for some reason.
Produce stone, food, iron and wood in +100 per turn if you can. You may find the other key aspects such as science, civics, training and culture very useful too. PC opponent does boost all these things very well as you can see in the final statistics, so try to keep up.
However, sometimes, even if you can do everything right, you will lose the game. There may be different reasons for this.
For example: There is a powerful alliance, which you cannot crush.
Another one: The leading opponent is situated on the other side of the map, the game is finishing and you have no time to catch up.
Focusing efforts on building the walls in every city, or focusing efforts to do too many festivals in every city. That is a common beginner mistake.
But don't you worry. Try a different approach, be patient and play better. There always is a big space for improvement.
Good luck!
